I will be grateful for some advice concerning the main wing spar. My plans call for an ash block between ribs 3 and 4. My American friends tell me that it is a solid block of wood. I am trying to determine why it needs a solid block. If it is to prevent crushing vertically, it doesn't make sense to use a hardwood that is stronger than the spar caps. If it is to give some reinforcing to the plywood web under landing gear bolt channels, I think it could be done with ash plates with a spruce core. Or is there something I am missing?
I will post a photo in a moment. Merci.
