How do I attach plywood to the flap leading edge?

Message par chintonmd »

The leading edge of the flaps consists of 3mm plywood "nose" ribs covered by 1.6mm plywood. Should I attempt to glue the plywood directly to the 3mm edge or should I add a strip of wood or something else to the edge of the rib to make it wider? Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Bonjour Charlie,

There is no need to add thickness to the flap or ailerons nose ribs. Protect your flaps/ailerons with polyethylene film and form the wetted skin ply on the nose part of flap/aileron, let dry thoroughly. When dry just glue the skin (after varnishing the not glued areas) on the ribs and the spar using straps at the ribs and clamps on the spar. Or you can use form blocs of half inch ply matching the nose ribs plus the skin ply thickness. Personally I prefer the straps method.

Good luck
