i'm building a cp1320 in us and was told about moving the firewall
7 cm forward for a weight and balance issue
i would be thankful withsome help with this

Je viens à l'instant de croiser le proprietaire du saphir (le N°14) à Toulouse et comme le mien est en cours de construction (N°86) nous avons discuté longuement de l'appareil. En ce qui concerne le comportement en vol il m'a précisé que le Saphir est naturellement centré arrière et qu'il à rajouté 15Kg de plomb pour avoir un meilleur équilibre. Pour lui il faudrait avancer la cloison parre feu de 5cm ( ou rallonger le bati moteur) surtout si comme toi (il me semble l'avoir lu sur un précédant message) tu réalise la 3éme place arrière. Il m'a également parlé de la dérive qui a pris quelques C2 de surface. Pour le cadre 14, je l'ai contrui comme indiqué sur le plan. La partie supérieure est à mon avis a réaliser lors du montage de la direction sur le fuselage. J'en serai à ce stade certainement c'est automne, je pourrai te donner + de précisions à ce moment si tu le souhaite

Here is my personal translation of the j.valles message:

“ Allo, I just met the owner of the Saphir (No 14) in Toulouse and which, like mine, in under construction (No 86) we got a long discussion about the aircraft. About the flight behavior he told me that the Saphir has a natural C.G. a little too far back and that he has added some 15 kg (33 lbs) of lead for a better C.G. According to him, the firewall should be moved forward some 5 cm (or increase the length of the engine mount) specially if (like I think I have read about that in a previous message) you plan to add the third seat. He also told me that the fin has got a few additional square cm of surface. About the former No 14, I built it as per plan. The upper part (I think) is to be built when the fin is mated to the fuselage. I will certainly be at it this fall, I will be able to give you more details then, if you wish.” Jacques

P.S. A personal note: I haven’t studied the Saphir plans, but at first sight, I would opt for a longer engine mount if you do not really need more leg room in the fuselage.
